From Twitter to X

Twitter Renamed as X#

Recently, the world's richest person and "light of humanity," Elon Musk, once again caused a stir by announcing the renaming of Twitter, which he acquired, as X. He also unveiled a logo featuring a white X on a black background, officially transforming the platform from a little blue bird to X. Unexpectedly, Twitter, Thunder, and DingTalk's battle for the title of the little blue bird's nickname saw Twitter, the strongest contender, voluntarily withdraw first.

Origin of X#

In the early days of the internet boom, Musk purchased the domain name x.com. Initially, he intended to develop X as a financial trading center, which is now known as PayPal. However, after going through various twists and turns (a rather complex process that will not be discussed here), Musk sold PayPal but retained the domain name X.com. When many people hear the term X, they think of adult content, such as the famous "xvideo." As a result, this domain name remained unused for a long time. However, recently, Musk suddenly announced his plan to transform X.com into a versatile application, starting with renaming Twitter as X.com. Does this mean that Twitter videos will be called xvideos in the future?

Interestingly, not long ago, our little Zuck, Mark Zuckerberg, just launched an app that competes with Twitter, breaking the record for the fastest user base growth for ChatGPT, and now Twitter has been renamed X. Of course, compared to the renaming, I would rather see the two of them engage in a boxing match.

Current Situation#

Currently, the domain name x.com has been redirected to Twitter, and the little blue bird icon has been changed to X. Some details have yet to be modified, and Musk has also revealed that Twitter will be made into a platform with only a dark mode interface. It seems that the Android app has already been updated and will change after the update. As for the iOS app, since it requires at least two characters for the app name, the name has not been changed temporarily, but the icon has been updated. Before this could be released, Apple set a precedent for Twitter and approved the X app for the App Store.

It is not yet clear whether Musk simply wants to rename Twitter as X and modify the corresponding UI or if he intends to build X as a versatile application, with renaming Twitter being just the first step. Personally, I am more inclined towards the second possibility, but given Musk's unpredictable nature, other mischief cannot be ruled out.

Zero-Cost Acquisition of Twitter Username @X#

It is worth mentioning America's zero-cost acquisition culture. Twitter forcibly took over the user @X as its official account, which is truly unfortunate for this individual. This truly demonstrates the unique zero-cost acquisition culture of the United States, as anything below $950 is considered insignificant. So, I wonder how the value of this account is determined? Is it as much as Ma Yilong says it is?

Another matter is Twitter Japan. If it were to be renamed as X.Japan, it seems that it would infringe on copyrights. We will have to see how this is handled in the future.

Methods to Prevent Modifications#

The simplest method for the client-side is to not update. Twitter's core functionalities have remained the same since very early versions, so there is no need to upgrade.
