Intro#
Last night, OpenAI suddenly announced the launch of its official ChatGPT software. Currently, it is only available on iOS and has only been released in the US region. If you want to download it, you can click on this link.
It is not surprising that ChatGPT has an official client, but it is unexpected that it was released so quickly and without any prior notice. Today, I will briefly experience it.
Getting Started#
After opening the app and logging in, you can see that the interface is very simple, just like the ChatGPT official website, clear and concise. However, in addition to input and settings, there is also a voice input function, which is said to support voice output in the future. By then, we won't need third-party API software for learning spoken language.
The settings include managing conversation history and personal data, and there are no other functions. Let's look forward to further development. Just imagine, in the future, there may be a feature to integrate with voice assistants, and once GPT-plus is connected to the internet, Siri won't be needed anymore.
Subscription#
I believe the biggest advantage of the official ChatGPT software is that it supports Apple in-app purchases. For just $19.99, you can subscribe for a month, which is a whole cent cheaper than subscribing on the official website. Supporting subscriptions solves the problem of domestic users not being able to subscribe with foreign credit cards.
ChatGPT's subscription is not following the usual pattern. The previously used methods for the Turkish region are not applicable here. The Turkish region is not only not cheap, but also twice as expensive.
Now we can save the trouble of opening a virtual credit card and save a large amount of opening fees. If you want to subscribe, just download it with a US Apple ID and then use Alipay to purchase gift cards for recharge. If you don't know how, you can refer to the following two tutorials:
Current Issues#
Heat Optimization#
Perhaps because OpenAI is developing software for the first time and is not familiar with app development, the optimization is not sufficient. It may also be because OpenAI's AI training often involves dealing with heat, so they consider this level of heat normal and didn't pay much attention to it. It can only be said that it is hotter than Genshin Impact.
Compared to Other Aggregation Software#
There are many software applications that support calling ChatGPT, whether it is on iOS or Android, and there are also many options for Windows and Mac. Many of them even support using API on multiple platforms. For example, they can call both ChatGPT and Claude on the same software. These software often have a built-in prompt store, which is very convenient to use. In comparison, the official software seems a bit lacking. However, with the emergence of the official software, the developers of these software may feel some pressure. Their software hasn't even been sold yet, and the official software has already made its debut.
Lack of Plugin Support#
Originally, I thought the app did not support plugins, and indeed, normal conversations opened in the app do not support plugins. However, someone shared a method: open a plugin conversation in the web version, and then go back to the app to find the history of that conversation. I just hope that OpenAI will open up the direct use of plugins in the app soon (although I can't afford it).
In-App Purchase Does Not Support Settlement API#
I am not a GPT-plus user, but I still linked my account with Depay just to be able to use the API. It would be very convenient if Apple or Google's official in-app purchase API could be used in the future (I can afford that).
